树校园 in Higher Education

The Moscow campus is proud to be a certified 树校园 in Higher Education. This certification recognizes our dedication to fostering community forests and caring for our core campus trees through the Arbor Day Foundation’s 树校园 in Higher Education program.

This program elevates campuses that establish a Tree Care Advisory Committee, draft a Campus Tree Care Plan and host service-learning opportunities that connect the community with tree and forest stewardship activities.

Arbor Day Observance Spotlight

In 2023, the Student Sustainability Cooperative, the Housing Office and the Palouse Clearwater Environmental institute partnered together to plant 800 native trees throughout the Palouse. Over 60 Vandals spent the day planting various native species of willow and dogwood to help stabilize creek banks and restore critically endangered riparian zones. Students learned how to identify planting spots, 种植树苗, and install protective tubing to ensure the trees survived. 志愿者s also learned about the importance of Palouse Prairie restoration and how they can help through practicing environmental stewardship.
